Oulu’s imposing cathedral was built in 1777 but then came the great fire of 1822, which severely damaged the structure. Architect CL Engel rebuilt it in empire style, adding a dome.

This national park is a popular winter-sports escape from Oulu. It covers discrete areas of old-growth spruce forest and is great for ski-trekking or hiking. There's also a downhill resort here.
