But also consider Tedford’s Kitchen. Opened in 2015 it is fun alternative to their fine dining Restaurant "Tedfords" (a great choice for a more traditional evening meal). Chef/Proprietor Alan Foster with the assistance of Head Chef Mark Devlin has created modern, casual, All Day Dining Menus using the best, fresh, and local produce. Their bright, airy room is the perfect location for a quick business lunch or a lazy afternoon grazing. Very cool interior, great lunch menus but undoubtedly the best salted chili squid in Belfast. Another restaurant which offers 10% discount with a coupon which you can find with the other brochures supplied.

Celebrity Chef Michael Deane serves a range of cuisines from great value lunches to fine dining. For lunch I regularly choose Love Fish . It has a very reasonable lunch menu (£6.50) with daily special of fresh fish and a great a la carte. I always try the Chingri Malai prawn curry, always cooked fresh and packed with flavour.

Built around 1843 this charming building, with its rich Maritime history, still holds a link to the sea. Tedfords, once a hub of the sea trade and ship chandler business, is today a fine dining overlooking the river Lagan. Now operating over 3 levels, Tedfords offers lunch time meals, fine dining and a private facility for corporate and social events. Within walking distance of the Waterfront Hall, the SSE Arena complex and the Ulster Hall, Tedfords is the perfect place to enjoy great seafood and early bird specials.

I can recommend Howard Street Restaurant for great steaks, pork belly and desserts. Opened in 2013 by award winning chef Marty Murphy, Howard Street is steadily gaining a reputation for high quality produce, with Char-Grilled 9oz Rib-Eye Steak, Beef Marrow Butter, Chunky Chips & Onion Rings one of my favourites.

If you enjoy fresh local seafood at an affordable price then make your way to the Mourne Seafood bar in Belfast. This seafood restaurants is unique in Ireland as they source all their shellfish from their very own shellfish beds. The Dundrum restaurant is situated in the picturesque village of Dundrum, at the foot of the Mourne Mountains. Great for seafood - especially seafood chowder or a pot of Dundrum Mussels. If not a seafood eater there is also a rib eye steak and some other dishes on offer which are good.

The Nu Delhi Lounge is a wonderful Indian restaurant that combines beautiful food, cocktails and music, all in one place and all delivered to perfection. I go there regularly. The menu is varied with traditional favourites and beautiful fusion food. You have to try tandoori prawns, Goan seafood chowder or even Haldi chili sea-bass all served with FREE poppadums… delicious. Ask for the owner “Naz” and tell him I recommended you to eat here. In a recent visit Morgan Freeman chose to eat there, and if it’s good enough for Morgan… Ask for the owner “Naz” as they offer 10% discount with a coupon which you can find with the other brochures supplied or just mention my name.

Drinks & Nightlife

The Harp Bar, situated alongside its big brother the hugely famous Duke of York, is a pub like no other. Firstly, it is a proper public house for the mature drinker selling crisps, dulse, coffees, independent draught beers and extensive whiskies and at all times “Belfast Craic” with a huge heart. Secondly, it is a live music venue on two floors hosting home-grown talent from the likes of Van Morrison etc. Both of these factors attempt to recreate the once famous “atmosphere” synonymous with its predecessor the 1970’s Harp Bar.

Saturday afternoons institution. By day, it’s a calm place for a drink or a bite to eat - the restaurant serves an excellent selection of traditional favourites; and by night plays hosts to Belfast’s best drag queens with karaoke, cabaret and everything in between. Union Street has become renowned for its wacky entertainment seven nights a week with the Saturday karaoke being without doubt the best night out. Tina Leggs Tantrum hosts a hilarious show and her famous Trannyoke. So if you’re not easily offended, this bar is a must on a Saturday afternoon. Get there early (by 3pm) as the show starts at 5pm.

Nestled along a narrow cobbled alleyway in the historic Half Bap area, the Duke of York pub offers a traditional Belfast welcome of craic, music and humour in contrast to the modern fashionable establishments currently blowing into the surrounding streets. Hosting regular traditional sessions there is no better place to sample the real taste of our city – simply step in and drink an Irish whiskey washed down with a pint of creamy stout. Imagine Belfast with only five streets. Protected by earth ramparts and the city walls, the area where the Dark Horse now stands was convenient to the old iron foundry, the pottery, the whiskey merchants and the brown linen hall.

Fibber Magees is one of my favourites with Fridays and Saturday evenings from 5pm hosting local band Vocal Zone and later traditional Irish music. Fibber Magees, Traditional Irish Music Bar based in Belfast. Nestled in the corner of Blackstaff Square, is the city’s hidden gem; Fibber Magee’s is the genuine article; a good old spit and sawdust bar, packed to the rafters with little bits of history and steeped in Irish tradition. Pull up a stool by the open fire and enjoy the tunes of traditional musicians, every night of the week. With fiddles, pipes and the bodhráns; the craic is guaranteed.

The Crown Bar is a recognisable landmark of Belfast, the pub has featured as a location in numerous film and television productions, such as David Caffrey's Divorcing Jack (1998) and Carol Reed's classic 1947 film Odd Man Out. The Crown has been given a Grade A Listed Building status by the Environment and Heritage Service. The Crown owes its elaborate tiling, stained glass and woodwork to the Italian craftsmen whom the original owner, Flanagan, persuaded to work on the pub after hours. These craftsmen were brought to Ireland to work on the many new churches being built in Belfast at the time. It was this high standard of work that gave the Crown the reputation of being one of the finest
