This is our favorite restaurant, but it is in the neighboring town. You can take the small train to Innertkirchen from the train station, and the owner of the restaurant will bring you back home. Check the website for the current set menu (recommended as a much better value than ordering off the menu!). Reservations recommended.
Hotel Restaurant Urweider

The only reason this is included as an expensive option is because you have to take the gondola to the top of the ski area. During the week there is a self-service cafeteria, but on Sunday mornings they have a breakfast buffet that is very good. An excellent place for mountain views or to combine with a day of hiking. Buffet cost is CHF 60.- including round trip gondola pass. Reservations recommended.

The Hasliberg gondola out of Meiringen (Alpach, 3 min walk from our house) can take you up the local mountain where there is a hiking trail based off the Muggestutz children's book series (woodland dwarfs), as well as other hiking and sightseeing.

For traditional handworking, including chocolate and cheese and other Swiss traditions, I suggest visiting the Ballenberg, which is a open-air museum located only 15 min away in Brienz. This is very popular with kids, as there are lots of animals as well.
