This offshoot of Powell’s Books on Hawthorne still offers the ultimate Powell’s experience, and often without the fierce weekend crowds! There is quirky stationery, a diverse and intellectual selection of books related to cooking, beverages, travel and gardening, as well as the friendly, helpful staff. Insiders know Powell’s on Hawthorne is one of the best and easiest places around to get some last minute holiday shopping done, and their selection of hand-made holiday tree ornaments is excellent.

The East side’s highly curated version of the famous Powell’s Books, along with a fantastic gift shop. Great stop for adults and kids alike.

I like this smaller outpost of Powell's. It is in the heart of interesting Hawthorne Street, and can be combined with a stop at nearby shops Greg's and Presents of Mind, perhaps also a game of pool in the back room at McMenamin's Bagdad.

This is a mini version of the larger Powell's Books downtown (which we also recommend) but has a great selection of books and other trinkets.

If you don't want to venture to the large Powell's Books in downtown this is another store of their's in the neighborhood
