On a warm summer’s evening, you will find hundreds of young people soaking up the atmosphere by the Spanish Arch.
The Spanish Arch is one of the oldest parts of Galway City, and was once used as a docking area for Spanish traders and ships in the 17th and 18th centuries, which is where it gets its namesake. Walking through the Arch, you’ll be able to walk one of Galway’s most famous promenades, the Long Walk…
One of two of the only remaining arches of the original city wall constructed in the Middle Ages. Beautiful area of the city with many restaurants, the city museum, the old Claddagh pier and many, many swans. Stunning spot to relax in the city right next to the roaring River Corrib.
A pre-medieval structure built in 1584 and the site of trade with Spanish Galleons which docked there when trading wine and spices
