On top of the Thirsty Monk Belgian beer bar, is Top of the Monk. We like to come here for whiskey on the rooftop patio. Plus they give you a key to unlock the snack of your choice with every drink. In Asheville if a bar has liquor but doesn't have food, you have to become a member at the door, it only costs a few bucks, and anyone can join.

The Thirsty Monk downstairs is one of my favorite beer bars in Asheville, but head upstairs through the semi-speakeasy door out front, and you'll find one of the best cocktail bars in Asheville. There are a few different rooftop bars in Asheville, but a lot of them are more focused on the rooftop than the drinks. At Top of the Monk, you can enjoy your drink with a view, and actually enjoy your drink, since the talented bartenders use freshly squeezed juices, and house-made bitters, tinctures, infusions, drams, and flavored syrups to put a delicious spin on cocktail classics. It's a small and intimate location, but it's well worth the wait.

Excellent cocktails (right above the beer)... you must join (for $1) but the intimate outdoor rooftop and the key you receive with every cocktail that opens a tiny door for a little nosh or sweet treat is worth it!
