Okay so this is geared toward the younger crowd but there is something here for everyone. They have pretty rad restaurant bars all along the beach here. Bunch of activities for you real athletes like mini-golf. You'll know you're there when you see a small roller coaster. Think of it as a mini-fair that is always open and less creepy. Also, another good spot for beach volleyball.

Very nice beach, you can walk along the beach for miles! Lot's of bars and restaurants nearby. Popular for college aged people.

Pacific Beach to the south has a long boardwalk. It's possible to rent bicycles in Pacific Beach and ride all the way to Mission Beach via the boardwalk, and over into Mission Bay Park.
