Just up the road from Portola 20 minutes or so, the Lakes Basin is a fishers paradise. Hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, swimming, boating, lodging and more in a mountain region of dozens of gorgeous alpine lakes.

This is a beautiful preserved area with many lakes. There is pretty much something for everyone! Almost no walking required at Sardine Lower, a 1/4 path to a virtually undiscovered upper lake Sardine, boat/paddle board accessible area at Salmon with a gorgeous paddle to a waterfall and small island, great fishing, etc.!
