The Shenandoah Valley was once the floor of a great inland sea. Centuries ago, as that sea receded, the forces of nature carefully etched out a formation of solid rock. The seven Natural Chimneys tower as much as 120 feet above the pastoral terrain of the Shenandoah Valley. Viewed from one angle, the formations resemble enormous chimneys standing in bleak contrast to the greenery of the Valley. Take a few steps, though, and the chimneys are transformed into the massive turrets of a foreboding medieval castle. There is a Junior Olympic size pool at Natural Chimneys with a spray water feature and the pool depth ranges from beach access up to five feet. The pool house features a changing area and restroom facilities for all users. The pool is generally open for the summer season beginning with Memorial Day Weekend and ending with Labor Day each year. Natural Chimneys Park in Mt. Solon is 14 miles north west of the cabin: 94 Natural Chimneys Lane Mt. Solon, VA 22843. The park is open for day use from dawn to dusk, seven days a week.

It's worth a quick visit to see the ancient "chimney" formations. Mt. Solon is a tiny historic town with some beautiful, historic buildings, most needing some TLC -- gorgeous country drives to and from....

An amazing historic location not too far from Bridgewater. This park offers bike trails, hiking trails, and a campground. The chimneys are astonishing and such a great photo opt.
