One of the most romantic gardens in all of Paris, set in a leafy courtyard on rue Chaptal. It’s part of an old mansion, now a museum, where writer George Sand and painter Ary Scheffer once lived. Find a bench under one the large centenary trees and let your mind wander. Set in a greenhouse, the museum’s tea café is a very peaceful place and unknown to many Parisians. I like to stop in for a hot cup of tea to calm the mind before heading to the garden. Set in a greenhouse, the museum’s tea café is a very peaceful place, and unknown to many Parisians. “Founded in 1960, it was built in the seventeenth century as the Bel Air House and is the oldest building in Montmartre. During its heyday, 12 rue Cortot served as a residence and meeting place for many artists including Auguste Renoir, Suzanne Valadon and Émile Bernard, who held their studios here, as well as the fauve artists Emile Othon Friesz and Raoul Dufy. Certainly one of the most charming museums in Paris.”

“Though the seeds of change had been sown as far back as the late 2000’s, Pigalle’s neighbourhood makeover was sealed in 2015, with two milestone hotel openings. Jacques Garcia, arguably the most celebrated Parisian interior architect of our times, spectacularly transformed a Belle Époque pleasure house into what is now the chic, five-star Maison Souquet hotel. Meanwhile, Romée de Goriainoff, Pierre-Charles Cros, and Olivier Bon, the trio behind the Experimental Cocktail Club (ECC), also unveiled their first hotel, Grand Pigalle. The neighbourhood was finally shedding its once-florid image and blossoming into one of the hottest nightlife destinations in Paris. Now it’s positively de rigueur among the cool Parisian bobo set (bourgeois bohemians).”
