Fort Cornwallis is a star fort in George Town, Penang, Malaysia, built by the British East India Company in the late 18th century. Fort Cornwallis is the largest standing fort in Malaysia. The fort never engaged in combat during its operational history (Wikipedia). A great place to visit to soak in the history and of course the sea breeze! Many newlyweds love to have their photos taken here.

Fort Cornwallis is a fort in George Town, built by the British East India Company in late 18th century & named after the Governor-General in Bengal, Charles Cornwallis. It's the largest standing fort in Malaysia, located next to the Esplanade & the Victoria Memorial Clock. The fort's walls, roughly 10 feet high, are laid out in star-like formation. A stroll along the perimeters takes roughly 10 mins. Inside, one can still see some of the original structures built over a century ago, including a chapel, prison cells, that were once used as barracks, a munitions storage area, a harbour light once used to signal incoming ships, the original flagstaff & several old bronze canons.

The things to look out for in the fort is a statue of Captain Francis Light, other than this, there are the canons which are named Sri Rambai. There is a legend that if any infertile places visit the canon and place a flower inside the barrel, she will be able to conceive. You will be able to know the history of East India Company and Penang from here.
