Buddhist Temple
“ The Origins of Kamakura’s Hasedera Temple According to the legend, in 721 AD the pious monk Tokudo Shonin discovered a large camphor tree in the mountain forests near the village of Hase in the Nara region. He realized the trunk of the tree was so large that it provided enough material for carving two statues of the eleven-headed Kannon. The statue he commissioned to be carved from the lower part of the truck was enshrined in Hasedera Temple near Nara; the statue from the upper half (actually the larger of the two) was thrown into the sea with a prayer that it would reappear to save the people. ”

Surf spot
“On this popular island, Kugenuma Beach is a great surfing spot for beginners—the waves aren’t too high, and you can surf all year round. There are lots of shops along the main street, including surfing stores and diving schools, so you don’t need to bring any equipment. It’s about 90 minutes south of Tokyo. After your surfing session, I recommend going to the Enoshima Koya beach hut for a bite to eat. It’s open from 8 am, so you can go even after an early-morning surfing session. The rice bowls are delicious, and they have one that’s topped with fresh shirasu—small fish that are an Enoshima specialty.”

Japanese Curry Restaurant
“Komachi-dori Street spreads from the rotary in front of Kamakura station to the north toward Kamakura Hachiman-gu. According to legend, it started as a market opened in front of the shrine. Today, the street is lined with over 250 restaurants, boutiques, fancy cafes, Japanese-style sweet cafes, and stores selling souvenirs and sundry articles unique to the ancient city. Many side streets branch of from both sides of Komachi-dori Street.”
