Sightseeing
Founded in 1874, this was the first of several secondary-level, military academies in Virginia. The museum houses chronologically arranged material covering activities at the school from 1900 until the institution closed in 1984. This display features an impressive collection of uniforms and artifacts.decorated and furnished as a late 1800's Victorian Parlor, and it contains displays showing the early days of the military school.
Other rooms on the first floor contain a recreation of a typical cadet barracks room and a classroom.

Viewed from one angle, the formations resemble enormous chimneys standing in bleak contrast to the greenery of the Valley. Take a few steps, though, and the chimneys are transformed into the massive turrets of a foreboding medieval castle.
There is a Junior Olympic size pool at Natural Chimneys with a spray water feature and the pool depth ranges from beach access up to five feet. The pool house features a changing area and restroom facilities for all users. The pool is generally open for the summer season beginning with Memorial Day Weekend and ending with Labor Day each year.

Most are within fenced pastures, however, they may come up to your party. The Museum currently has two cats, one on the Irish farm and one on the 1850s American farm. Both move freely around the site.
The Museum has many areas out of the general traffic pattern that can serve as quiet areas.
Food Truck Vendors are typically present during Museum special events. Check the event website page or their Facebook page for details regarding a specific event.
Visitors are welcome to bring their own food as well. Café tables and picnic benches are available for your convenience.
Snacks and bottled water are also available at the Museum Welcome Center.

Unique caverns with Civil War History. Walk through the very places where the soldiers lived, ate and slept. You’ll see where they stored their provisions and how they moved them up and down between the caverns and the surface. You’ll see over 150 names and drawings that were etched or written by the soldiers themselves. *note: this is also a wedding and event venue so you will need to call ahead to make sure they are open on a particular day to the public.

You’ll see where they stored their provisions and how they moved them up and down between the caverns and the surface. You’ll see over 150 names and drawings that were etched or written by the soldiers themselves. *note: this is also a wedding and event venue so you will need to call ahead to make sure they are open on a particular day to the public.

Such a neat place whether you like antiques or not. Go see the Bigfoot Statue that greets you at the front door. Inside is a huge warehouse of collectibles. You could spend hours here. There's a little cafe inside with homemade treats and sandwiches.
