The Shenandoah Valley was once the floor of a great inland sea. Centuries ago, as that sea receded, the forces of nature carefully etched out a formation of solid rock. The seven Natural Chimneys tower as much as 120 feet above the pastoral terrain of the Shenandoah Valley. Viewed from one angle, the formations resemble enormous chimneys standing in bleak contrast to the greenery of the Valley. Take a few steps, though, and the chimneys are transformed into the massive turrets of a foreboding medieval castle. There is a Junior Olympic size pool at Natural Chimneys with a spray water feature and the pool depth ranges from beach access up to five feet. The pool house features a changing area and restroom facilities for all users. The pool is generally open for the summer season beginning with Memorial Day Weekend and ending with Labor Day each year. Natural Chimneys Park in Mt. Solon is 14 miles north west of the cabin: 94 Natural Chimneys Lane Mt. Solon, VA 22843. The park is open for day use from dawn to dusk, seven days a week.

A “living” history museum that tells the story of the people who migrated from the Old World to America and the life they created in the Shenandoah Valley. The Museum is made up of original or reproduced examples of traditional buildings from the Old World and America. Self-guided tours as well as guided tours utilize walking paths and trails to allow Museum guests to visit all 11 permanent exhibits. You’ll enjoy “living history” as communicated through costumed interpreters in both the Old World and American sections of the Museum. Shuttle carts run continuously in the event you want a lift. Golf carts can be rented for a nominal fee. The West African farm and the 1700s Settlement farm occasionally have drums or firearm demonstrations. Animals can be found at most sites. Most are within fenced pastures, however, they may come up to your party. The Museum currently has two cats, one on the Irish farm and one on the 1850s American farm. Both move freely around the site. The Museum has many areas out of the general traffic pattern that can serve as quiet areas. Food Truck Vendors are typically present during Museum special events. Check the event website page or their Facebook page for details regarding a specific event. Visitors are welcome to bring their own food as well. Café tables and picnic benches are available for your convenience. Snacks and bottled water are also available at the Museum Welcome Center. Pets are not allowed inside the Museum exhibit areas. This is primarily to avoid interactions with the numerous farm animals and wildlife you will encounter. Pets are allowed on the courtyard and in the picnic areas. They also have covered kennels that can be rented for the day for $5, where you can visit your pet and even have them join you for lunch. 1290 RICHMOND ROAD STAUNTON, VIRGINIA 24401 PHONE: (540) 332-7850
