Perfect way to spend a day just floating down the Truckee river. Bring a cooler with drinks and food and some water toys and stop anywhere along the river to have lunch. Very calm river except for a little bit of rapids at the very end but you can get out and walk around those.

You can walk there by going behind my house across the railroad tracks (use caution and if uncomfortable crossing the track just go down the street and cross at the railroad crossing.)

If you want to experience the story of the Donner party and other local history then the state museum is a must see. Newly built the museum offers short movies and historic artifacts to tell the story of the Donner Summit.
If you have time be sure to call ahead and join one of the walking tours to learn about the locations of some of the Donner party campsites.
