Small Brew started in the backyard of some locals and is still the favorite place for neighbors to meet up to hang out, have a few of the house beers, try one of the revolving menu of excellent cocktails, or have their amazingly good food. It's the place you go to run into someone you know and have a good time, and plenty of people bring their dog to the back patio. It's not unusual for someone to bring a board game for an entire table to play. Small Brew just a couple doors down from the Texas Theater, so I'd recommend you go see a movie and then sit around on the patio of Small to chat and drink afterward.

The Arboretum is a gorgeous garden on the Lake, with lovely views and lots of quiet spots to sit and read, or draw, or picnic with friends and kids. There's some beautiful architecture, always thousands of blooms, koi ponds, and they have a really fun kids area too with water fountains and things to climb. Parking plus entry can be expensive, but it's worth it.

If you're really up for a ride, you can follow various connecting bike trails across town to the lake. The Bath House and Winfrey Point are both romantic picnic spots (with a convenient parking lot behind them) that are a great place to start wandering from.

White Rock Lake

They have a fantastic dog park too! If you're really up for a ride, you can follow various connecting bike trails across town to the lake. The Bath House and Winfrey Point are both romantic picnic spots (with a convenient parking lot behind them) that are a great place to start wandering from.
Hike a short trail through tall fields and deep woods that lead to a totally natural view of the Trinity River. It's really peaceful and beautiful. Great Bird watching, I've heard. Sean proposed to me near the giant oak tree on the trail. I think it's pretty romantic.

They have a lot of really distinctive foods catering to their Mexican and South American target clientele, which makes the produce section fun! Don't go at the end of the day, 5:00-7:00pm, or you'll be in an incredibly long checkout line.

I know, it sounds really depressing to go to a museum about an assassination, but it's actually a wonderful place to learn about John F. Kennedy's entire life. The exhibition is inspiring and rather in depth about he and Jackie. It ends with a detailed explanation of the assassination complete with the opportunity to see the window Oswald is thought to have shot out of, the old boxes still in place like they were on that day. Ignore the guys selling newspapers and tours out front in the plaza. Some of them are straight up crazy and it's definitely a tourist trap down there!

Some of the older sales ladies there now were trained by Mr Marcus himself and are still selling hundreds of thousands of dollars of designer clothes to the City's wealthiest people every day. I used to work there, so take my advice: Walk and talk like you have $50,000 in your pocket no matter how you look. Try on that dress, or necklace. Have your makeup done by one of the ladies, and buy yourself a tube of Chanel Lipstick before you go. Or some extravagantly expensive socks. You'll feel glamorous every time you put it on for the next year.
