The Žanis Lipke Memorial is a memorial museum located on the island of Ķīpsala in Riga, Latvia, at Mazais Balasta dambis, 9. It was opened in 2012 next to the former home of rescuer of Jews Žanis Lipke, where he had arranged a shelter for rescued Jews from the Riga Ghetto during World War II.

This is often left out of city maps. The Lipke Memorial, which is actually not so small, maybe Riga’s best-hidden museum. This concealment is not only factual but also symbolic for this used to serve as a hideaway. In the yard that is the end point of the tiny street, an underground bunker had been dug out. That is where Žanis Lipke had made a hiding place for people saved from the Jewish ghetto. During the Second World War eight to twelve people used this 3x3 meter hole in the ground as a shelter, often for long periods of time. It is important to stress that the German police never found this shelter, Lipke was never caught and none of the people involved was ever betrayed.

The memorial of Zanis Lipke is not only a unique architectural object but as well an important artistic expression, which tells the story of a Latvian man, whose bravery and humanity left an important mark on the Latvian Jewish minority.
