Seward, Ak is about a 2 in a half hour drive from Anchorage and is very scenic drive. Seward offers fishing charters (salmon/halibut), glacier and marine viewing cruises, hiking, sea life center and much more. Mt Marathon race 4th of July weekend every year.

This town is the place to be on the 4th of July! The Mount Marathon race is so much fun. The drive Seward is also one of the top 10 drives in the nation. I highly recommend either taking the train or going by car.

Seward is 34 miles away, where you can take a boat to Kenai Fjords National Park and see tidewater glaciers, humpback whales, orcas, sea lions and sea otters. If you prefer, take a boat and go fishing for world class halibut and salmon. Visit the Alaska Sealife Center. Hike up to see Exit Glacier and the Harding Ice Field.

We love Seward but it is about a 3 hour drive so a long day-trip--we recommend an overnight there (and/or in Homer). Great kayaking, hiking, cruises and deepwater fishing.
