If you are looking for less of a hike and more of a flat easy walk, head for Schollenberger on Petaluma's East side. I run here every couple of weeks. To extend the loop a bit, try parking near the trail head in the Hilton parking lot.

Lots of birds to see and an easy 2.2 mile around the "water" if it's not dried up.

Bird watching along the Petaluma River. All flat land. Paved and dirt trail around the wetlands. Approximately 2+\- miles.
