Actions a Host needs to take
- Obtain a short-term rental license from the City of San Diego (Refer to the video guide on how to apply for a short-term rental license from the City of San Diego)
- Create an account using the City of San Diego's Citizen Portal
- Fill in the needed information and complete the application
- Once you receive your license, add your registration details to your listing(s) on Airbnb

Regulations
The City of San Diego adopted the “City of San Diego Short-Term Residential Occupancy Ordinance” that states that a short-term rental license may be obtained by a short-term rental owner, or long-term tenant of a short-term rental. The ordinance requires owners to apply for a license through an online portal developed by the City. Overview here.
The City of San Diego has provided four license options for Hosts to apply for, with each tier having different eligibility requirements. Under the new law, a Host may only hold one short-term rental license for one dwelling unit at a time. Please review the eligibility requirements carefully and apply for the license that best fits your hosting ability. The City of San Diego has also provided a guide which can assist you to determine the best license tier for you.
Taxes
San Diego imposes the San Diego Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) on all properties rented. Airbnb collects and remits the TOT in San Diego. Learn more about occupancy tax collection and remittance by Airbnb.
